Description
Senate Consulting provided crucial health & safety support and full CDM services as Principal Designer for the historic refurbishment of the Natural History Museum’s Waterhouse front façade. This project involved complex restoration work, requiring meticulous planning and stringent safety measures to protect both the workforce and the public, ensuring safety and preserving the heritage of such a historically valuable structure.
Challenge
Senate Consulting facilitated Health and Safety Support and Inspections, CDM Support as Principal Contractor, Risk Management and Safety Planning and Stakeholder Coordination. Due to the sensitive nature of such an iconic and historically significant structure, great care was taken when the safe systems of work were created. It was not permitted to close the museum for the work to be carried out, so along with the great care that was needed to protect the building as a whole, there was even more focus on protecting the huge number of, essentially un-controlled, visitors in the close vicinity of the working area.
Goal
Our involvement ensured the project was executed to the highest safety standards, significantly reducing risks during the refurbishment. The proactive CDM support provided clarity on legal responsibilities and enhanced safety integration at every project stage.
Outcome
Effective coordination with all stakeholders led to the successful preservation of the museum’s historic facade without compromising safety.
